5 Unique Spots for Your Atlanta Photography Session
Justin Solomon
So you're looking for the best spots to take your engagement, family, or even wedding photos in the Atlanta-Metro area? Look no further! We've got you covered, and we even have photo previews of the spaces!
In this inaugural blog post we are diving into some well-known locations for everyday visit and relaxation, but not-so-much known for photo opportunities. Remember, these locations are just my top 5 unique. Atlanta-Metro area has some incredible spots to hold your photography session, and can fit anyone's needs.
5. Downtown Decatur
If you are looking for a one-stop-shop for all photography needs, this is the place for you! From the beautiful park setting with a wonderful gazebo and amazing lighting in the afternoon to graffiti-sprayed walls and a hipster-esque attitude, Downtown Decatur might just be your place of choice.
TIP: Always find it hard to park? Don't worry! Weekenders can find FREE PARKING in the courthouse garage! This is just a short walk to this great area.
4. Little Five Points
Little Five Points has everything from shopping, local eating at the Vortex, and most importantly.... PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES! If you are looking for the classic photo mixed with a little graffiti and hipster feel, go no further. Atlanta Skyline views, urban alleyways, and pure fun awaits the adventurous side of you at this location. Check it out!
TIP: Easiest way to get here is to ride MARTA into Edgewood/Candler Park Station. Parking is very limited here unless you park in the neighborhood areas. This also provides a unique photo-op in itself on the local metro and walking to the area!
3. "Graffiti Garden" - Old Decatur Waterworks
If you are looking for an all-around location for art, peacefulness, and nature, this location is most certainly for you. The Waterworks has bridges, walking trails, water features, and beautiful artwork that will add a pop to your photos and make all your friends jealous!
TIP: Wander off the beaten path (literally) into the area where the old Waterworks stood. Amazing art, incredible staircases, and old doorways are left from the once-standing water plant. However, don't be brave! Bring the bug spray!!!!
2. Krog Street Tunnel
Krog Street Tunnel is a WONDERFUL location for a quick mini-session, or even a music video! Located in East Atlanta, this artful tunnel provides graffiti from local artists that constantly change as the years go on. You can capture great film-like portraits here, and even great silhouettes.
TIP: Look down, too! There are incredible quotes and drawings on the sidewalks, which provide epic selfie opportunities!
1. Oakland Cemetery
Why did this location make it to the number one spot? I think it's self-explanatory! Oakland Cemetery provides a unique place for anyone looking for beautiful landscaping, stellar skyline views, or simply a "peaceful" feel to your photos. Although a graveyard doesn't make most people's lists... how could we resist? Plus, you'll be in the presence (or lack there-of) of greats like Margaret Thatcher and Bobby Jones!
TIP: If you can plan a session during the week at either dawn or sunset, this would be best. The cemetery is a very popular weekend hangout for locals and sightseers, as well as festivals throughout the year. Normally, privacy is key to any photoshoot, so be warned!!!
